THE CRUx

Stomping, swinging, rejoicing...

The Crux is a mad scientist’s music laboratory, where songs are presented as joyful theatrical performances with an odd and beautiful intensity.

Lullabies to drink your morning coffee to...

Gospel songs for the faithless…

Pirate shanties for people who get seasick...

Swing music for the graceless…

Josh Windmiller’s songwriting is alchemical, boiling folk music into the present with an immediacy that refuses to play it safe. The Crux’s live show is an adventurous happening with such attractions as a driving jazz number using an 8 foot chain and pipe wrench for percussion, rousing speeches amidst gospel melodies, and a ballad in which the audience is prompted to howl along like wild dogs during a mournful bridge. The band’s recordings are equally provocative landscapes of character and sound, engineered to excite and haunt.
